MATTAWAN SCHOOL
FIRST SCHOOL
Schoolhouses began consolidating in the year 1866. Mattawan took lead among the state and built their first school in 1866. Originally made of wood, it changed to brick. It caught fire and burned in 1904.
SECOND SCHOOL
The second school was built the following years in 1905. Shortly after, the tower of the school caught fire.
THIRD SCHOOL
The tower of the school was replaced and structural modifications made. Window positions changed from school two to three. Pictured was the school in 1911.
THIRD SCHOOL EXPANDED
Growth of Mattawan continued. An adjacent school was constructed and later became known as St. Bosco School. The school has since been removed but St. Bosco Church now owns the ;and by which the schools of past used to stand.
Picture shows the start of the new Mattawan High School. Within a few years, it doubled in size and added a second floor.

B y 1940, the high school was complete and remained as Mattawan Central for decades until later becoming Mattawan Elementary.
